Elfneh Bariso is originally from Ethiopia, and now lives in London.

With his wife and other supporters, he set up a small charity, AHEAD, that is working primarily to enable orphaned rural girls to access education, support health promotion and improving opportunities to generate income for disadvantaged communities.

The charity has raised money and various materials and supported its projects in Ethiopia. AHEAD collaborates with UDA (Unity Development Association) a registered partner charity in Ethiopia. So far, AHEAD has distributed interest free loans to 20 households in Wadara district.

A number of health promotion training workshops for rural deprived communities have been delivered. Books, video cameras, MP3s and various educational materials such as posters have been distributed to schools and a teacher training college.

After renting a hostel for about eight years for over fifty orphan girls, AHEAD and UDA have got a purpose built hostel for orphan rural girls to be able to attend school in Shakiso town.

Currently AHEAD is fundraising to finish off some work on the new hostel and also to refurbish an abonded building to open the second hostel to be able to provide accommodation to more orphans.

AHEAD needs volunteers to fundraise and mobilise educational and health resources.
